Cole Michalk leads the Young Emerging Leaders

As of March 2021 Cole Michalk, who is the District Director for State Senator Brandon Creighton, started his position as Chair of the Young Emerging Leaders (YEL) and has made an impact on the group by working with the officers to enhance community outreach. He has been working with Pat Avery, President/ CEO of the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce, to improve their acknowledgment of Southeast Texas and what it has to offer young professionals. Mr. Michalk said, “I did not know how important our area was until after I started to work for State Senator, Brandon Creighton, and I want to make sure that our YEL members know how important Southeast Texas is.”

With his efforts, Mr. Michalk was able to get the chair of the YEL to become an advisory member of the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors, which will allow him and the future chairs of the group, to work closely and learn from our board. Mr. Michalk wants to make sure YEL is not only involved with the community, but with the Chamber as well.

Through his initiative and the help of YEL officers, the group has achieved great success. They have had their first volunteer activity where the group went to Pleasure Island’s South Levy Road and cleaned up the trash along the shoreline to beautify the island. In the month of June, the group visited the Sabine Pilots’ Dock. They learned the role that the pilots play in our area, and took a tour on one of their pilot boats. Later this year the group will schedule a tour to visit Cheniere Energy’s Terminal in Cameron Louisiana to learn more about LNG plants.

Mr. Michalk wanted the group to have more networking opportunities and worked for them to have a networking coffee so the members can network in the morning before they start working. Cole stated, “throughout the time that I've been affiliated with the group, I met a lot of great people that I may not have met otherwise, I have gained many good relationships while being a part of this group. I want to thank all of my fellow YEL members for allowing me to serve as the YEL chair, I'm looking forward to the great things that our group is going to do in the future.”
