New Year

Jan 15, 2015

In January the chamber will be celebrating the old and the new. On January 21, 2015 the chamber will be hosting a reception for Brian McDougal. Brian is our new city manager and will be arriving that week to start his new position. The chamber looks forward to working with this new leader to Port Arthur. Since I started as President of the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce I have welcomed a new Superintendent of Port Arthur ISD and a new President of Lamar State College – Port Arthur. Now, with the welcoming of a new City Manager all of the executive leadership of the major institutions in PA will be new. I look forward to working with these leaders in improving the economic development and education of Port Arthur.

On January 27, 2015 the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce will host its 115th annual banquet. This year we will honor Floyd Marceaux with the Arthur E. Stilwell award. Floyd is a long time leader in the community and the founder of the Mardi Gras Celebration. His support for the renovation of historic Port Arthur is well known.  The speaker for the banquet will be long time radio talk show host, Al Caldwell. Al has been on radio for over 50 years and will share a lifetime of stories with those attending.

If you want to attend the reception for the city manager just be there, there is no charge. If you wish to attend the annual banquet you can call the chamber at 409-963-1107 or go to our website at www.portarthurtexas.com and register. All the information for tickets and sponsorships are found there.

Next year each of you will have the chance to join with the Port Arthur, Orange and Beaumont chambers to visit Austin on March 1, 2 and 3 to communicate with our elected State Officials the issues that affect our area. While there are many issues the main theme will be Transportation, Education, Windstorm Insurance and Environmental. There is still time to communicate your concerns and issues to the chamber in your area. If you wish to attend Golden Triangle Days in Austin go to www.gtdatx.com for information.

The chamber has available the 2015 Resource Guide and Calendars. They are free and all you have to do is visit our office at 4749 Twin City Highway – Suite 300. That address is good until we move sometime in January or February. After that it will be 501 Procter on the top floor.

Here is hoping that you had an enjoyable holiday season and 2015 being good to you.
